I am tired like hell. There was now sleep to get on the plane, but it is early in the Morning (in Hong Kong) I I cannot miss a whole day in the city. So what to do? I think it will be a trip to The Peak. You should have a great view over Hong Kong and Kowloon and many pictures you find on the internet are from there. Google helps me to find out that I have to take bus no. 15 to the peak tram station. A funicular that takes you up the mountain and that is quiet old. Just one bus from the hotel to the city center. I exit at the ferry terminal and take a walk around. Checking for some geocache as I go, but there is none close by. Here is the starting point for the Star ferries to Kowloon – a must do as I have heard. But not today.
I found the busstop for bus no. 15 and take the next one that comes. It says The Peak on it – so it must be right. And it is… just not stopping at the funicular stop. It is the bus that goes directly to the top. Ok… I can take the tram downhill. The road is very narrow, has a lot of swings and the bus does not slow down very much. And there are slopes on the side… I feel tired now and have to keep myself awake. That will be a fun day. Hot like hell, sweating and tired.
After about 30 minutes we arrive at the top. This is a big bus-stop and a lot of taxis here. Nothing like a small, beautiful mountain top. More like a big shopping center on top of the hill. And hundreds of people around, maybe more. I follow the general direction everyone is going. That must be right. One big concrete shopping center (ok… it is two shopping centers). Did I mention that there ar MANY people here. I take a tour to a spot where you have a great view.
There should be another spot to get a great view. On top of the shopping center. Following the escalators up you get to a line of people waiting. 50 HKD for entrance. I pay with my Octopus card and get out on top. The view is nice, but if it is worth the 50 HKD compared to the spots outside . I don’t know. Of course I take a lot of pictures and try to make the best out of it. A lot op people taking selfies and nobody is caring about other people that might like to take some pictures themselves.
I get thirsty – so next stop a kiosk that sells drinks. I try to find some geocaches, but the map on my GPS does not work and the one that is close by is downhill. I try anyway but there is nothing to find. The funicular has a stop close by, so lets try to get a tour downhill. Pressing the button and waiting. There it comes…. but doesn’t stop. I have to get all the way uphill again
Puh… I am up again. But the line for the Peak tram to get down is long… very long and the space is not very big inside the tram. But I want to go down. So the bus it is again. More narrow roads and me trying not to fall asleep from all the movement in the bus. Not easy. I get out at the stop Admirality. A big shopping mall with all the expensive stuff directly at the bus stop. Inside it is cold compared to the outside. I find a supermarket that has a lot of European stuff. Even German beer. 😀 But I think beer would be fatal for me now. But I do not leave the shop without a good stockpile of drinks – sparkling water, juices, diet coke… 170 HKD – that should give me drinks for some days.
Thanks to google I find out that there is a bus directly from the mall to my hotel. Talking about British influence – in Hong Kong they have perfected the standing-in-line-sport. The different bus numbers have their own lines painted on the pavement.
A 20 minute bus ride later (and this time I know that I have to get of at Pok Fu Lam Village) I am at the hotel. The security guard welcomes me and even pushes the button for me. First thing to do is to order room service, then take a much needed shower and wash my shirt (I had not planned for this kind of weather – It was said to be the best time to travel for a nice climate…) and then wait for the food. It comes on a cart and the hotel employee places it beside the sofa. It looks very nice and tastes good. And it is not expensive alt all.
Time to get a bit of much needed sleep. There is more to explore tomorrow.
