Today there will be a little more exploring of the city. With the bus ticket it is easy to get from A to B without to much problems.
Goal is Trastevere which is an old part of Rome with narrow streets and medieval houses. A lot of restaurants here, art places and seems to be popular with tourists, too. Walking around, can’t miss out on some geocaches and finding a place to eat some pasta. A little bot to much meat in the sauce, but the pasta was good.
After spending some time I rent one of the Lime eBikes to go towards the Vatican. The tour goes uphill (thanks to the eBike without problems) towards a viewpoint called Gianicolo where you have a great view over the city.
Passing a lot of nice houses/villas on the way. A little bit of light rain. Downhill it is just rolling and using the breaks. I don’t want to think about the rental fee, but it was worth it. Down again I have to find the best way to get to a place where I am allowed to park the bike, since the Vatican is a no parking area. Castel Sant’Angelo is the place. A lot of street vendors here trying to sell all kinds of useless stuff.
Now it is time to check out where the entrance to the Vatican museum is. I have bought tickets online in advance since they sold out fast. A guided tour early in the morning and I want to know where to go. It is quite a way around the city, but I found it.
Now I have some time to kill and that is mostly people watching standing in cue for the basilica. I set up a geocaching event at the fountain in the middle of the square. And I got some attendance, Two from Italy, a German family from Jena and a guy from Latvia living in Rome. Good talk as always and in the end we go to find some caches together. Someone had solved a mystery and invited us for a log. Great fun, lots of walking (again) – and I wanted to have a day with less walking. Not possible.
Tram no. 19 back to the hotel. A tour to the supermarket to buy some pasta and cheese to take back home (mostly types you don’t get in Norway).D
Dinner at a Pizza place after I put everything in my room.
