Again, waking up early. The bed was not as comfy as I would have liked. Packing and breakfast before it is time to get to the station. Of course, I am to early and have to wait. Nothing new there.
Got a first class ticket, since it was only 50 SEK more. The Öresundståg takes me first to Hässelholm, where I have to change for the Örsundståg to Växjö. When changing trains, I lost my suction mount for my action cam at my seat, I think. An expensive loss and they don’t sell them the way I had it… I file a lost property claim, but I don’t think I will get it back. One way to make a holiday more expensive.
Train to Växjö in a grumpy mood. That doesn’t get better when I find out that I am standing there with my two pieces of luggage and the luggage boxes are out of order. I am thinking about moving on to Karlskrona and let it be. But I suddenly think about checking Google Maps. And yes, there is a hotel of the Strawberry group close by. It is worth a try, and it only costs me a 200-meter walk.
The receptionist is kind and let me store my luggage for 3 hours. Yeah. Now I can explore the city.
It is Sunday, but some shops are open. Not many people out there. And the weather is really nice. Walking up and down the pedestrian zone, to the torget (marked place) with a flee-marked. The cathedral is close and well known. Very nice red painted stone building. Unfortunately, there is a mass going on, so visiting the inside is not possible. Well, it might have been possible, but awkward walking around. And I already feel the smoke coming out of my ears. 😀
Behind the cathedral is a park, and following one of the paths you get down to the shore of lake Växjö (Växjösjön). You can walk around it, but I have limited time in the city. A short stroll. Here there are some people, enjoying the sun.
They have e-scooters and I rent one to get around caching a little bit. Some interesting buildings. I don’t remember when I was here last time with my parents, but a lot of new buildings. Unfortunately, I think most of the interesting stuff to see is outside the city, and you would need a car and time. But I had enough time to get an impression.
A little break at a Café with nice cakes and sitting outside in the sun is not so bad. That is what I call holidays.
Back to the hotel to get my luggage and then to the station. The ticket machine does not like my credit card and the app does not like it either. They sell me the ticket at the counter in the end. Train to Emmaboda and then change to a train to Karlskrona.
The train is on time, but when we arrive in Emmaboda, the announcement is made that there will be bus transport to Karlskrona. The train is not operating. That means a wait of 30 minutes and a longer time to get there.
The drive is nice. A lot of lakes and forests. I very much like the landscape here. And a front row seat on the bus helps to see a lot.
The bus is at Karalkrona station at 18:10. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the station. This time, no upgrade comes my way. The hotel is fully booked. People start their holidays. That might be a bad sign for updates later down the road. But the room is nice.
No time to waste. I have arranged a Meet and Greet event in the park at the station. Only one cacher is there. She came 50 km from Karlshamn to be at the event. The other who said he would come might have forgotten. A nice talk, some tips about local caches. Very nice weather.
Dinner is a kebab that was not very good at all. But there were few options. I just know where not to go tomorrow.
At the hotel, some planning of the day tomorrow. I downloaded the app from Blekinge museum that offers a self-guided walk through the world heritage city.
Time for bed.
